AI's place in weather forecasting

ENM Alumni and the Association des Anciens de la Météorologie (AAM) are pleased to invite you to a round-table discussion on the role of artificial intelligence in weather forecasting, with the participation of an expert from Goggle and weather experts from France and abroad.
The event will take place on November 23 from 6 to 9 pm, following the ENM business forum at the Centre International de Conférences de Météo France in Toulouse, and will be followed by refreshments.
It will also be possible to follow this round table by videoconference.

While artificial intelligence (AI) regularly makes the headlines, it is also playing an increasingly important role in weather forecasting. A possible breakthrough lies in the recent arrival of weather forecasting models based solely on neural networks, and promising to match the best numerical weather models currently in use in operations. In this round-table discussion, we'll start by clarifying what's behind the term AI, and briefly explain how it works. We will then look at how AI has long been present in the world of meteorology, before discussing the current and possible future uses of these algorithms. Finally, surrounded by various players from both the research and operational worlds, we'll debate whether AI is simply a new development or a genuine revolution in the field of weather forecasting, and what the consequences of this might be.
