AIRCRAFT AND ENGINE INNOVATIONS & DESIGNS TO DECARBONIZE COMMERCIAL AVIATION (2024)

This report was prepared by the Innovations in Aircraft and Propulsion Systems Design Working Group of ENAC Alumni’s initiative on sustainable aviation. It scientifically describes and provides detailed insights into the decarbonization levers related to aircraft and engine technologies. It features a comprehensive outline of the various development areas pursued by original equipment manufacturers, explaining their maturity, complexity, and impact on decarbonization. The document contains two main parts: (1) aircraft technologies in line with current technologies (aerodynamics, materials, kerosene-based engines, etc.), and (2) breakthrough technologies (electric, hydrogen, etc.).
